There are no business requirements for a driver to enter a tanker.The cleaning of a tanker is normally done in specialised trailer washing facility by industrial robots with high pressure water/steam and specialised cleanning products. As such, descending into an empty, uncleaned tanker is restricted, unless the following circumstances are met cumulatively:

• you will obtain prior approval from the dispatch office for the manoeuvre;
• you are in a specialised trailer washing facility or workshop with mechanical ventilation facilities;
• the temperature of the tanker is below 27⁰C
• there is no leftover product or foam in the tank;
• all the manholes and the valves are opened 2h prior to descend to allow air circulation and release of any existing toxic fumes;
• a second person wearing the proper bitumen PPE is assisting the operation from outside the tanker;
• you are fully equipped with the bitumen PPE equipment;
• you will wear a harness (same as working at heights) which will be connected to a lifeline. In case you will become nauseous, this will allow the person assisting you to pull you out of the tanker without exposing himself to any risk;
• a ladder is permanently position to allow a fast emerging out of the tanker;
• you will be wearing an oxygen monitor / alarm system;
• you will not smoke, operate electronic equipments not certified ATEX (e.g. your mobile phone), use naked flames of torches inside an uncleaned tanker;
